520 _aRice fish culture is not widely practice in the world. Most information comes from the Asian countries. Among them Vietnam is one it shows a good potential in rice fish culture management. The total rice field area is 3,415,000 ha and 326,000 ha of rice fields are suitable for rice fish culture. However the current rice field area used for rice fish cultivation accounted for only 1.8%. Vietnam has a long history more than hundred years in rice fish culture management. It has been practiced as traditional farming system with Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in the northern high land region. However, it has spread up to Red River Delta in North, Mekong River Delta in South and Western Mountain areas. It mainly practiced by households all over the country. Researchers, Academic staff in the Universities and Extension staff support to the Farmers in these practices to obtain the best prospects from the paddy fields. In rice fish-farming rice is the economically important crop. Fish may provide supplemental income and/or protein, but is not normally the primary crop. The paddy fields in Vietnam, they used mainly in food fish culture. In addition, they used it is for the ffy/fmgerling prc cf i ' on, tilapia fry production and shrimp culture.
