<br/><br/> Marine Fisheries Research in Sri Lanka was initiated in late <br/>1940's with the establishment of the Research Division within the <br/>department of Fisheries. When the National Aquatic Resources <br/>Research & Development Agency (NARA) was formed in 1981, the <br/>former research division was abolished and the majority of the <br/>research staff were directly absorbed in to the Marine <br/>Biological Resources Division of NARA. This division now <br/>comprises of a Director, 6 Research Officers, 5 Research <br/>Assistants and one Typist in the permenant cadre and 10 data <br/>collectors and a data entry operator on a temporary basis.
