De Silva and Rajasuriya (1905) listed 132 species of
hermatypic :as well as a hermatypic corals divided among
r55 genera of which 25 species and 5 genera are new records for Sri Lanka. More recently Rajasuriya and De Silva (1986)
recorded an additional 34 species of hermatypic corals
divided among 8 genera for Sri Lanka bringing the total up to
166 species divided among 63 genera. Further investigation
carried out on the Coral and Sandstone reefs of Kandakuliya,
Nellawatte, Unawatuna and Weligama by the Coral Reef Survey
Team of the National Aquatic Resources Agency (NARA) yielded
5 species of hermatypic corals divided among ' 2 genera.
Table 1 contains the new hermatypic corals recorded for
Sri Lanka and Table 2 provides the locations and Ecological
data for the new records. The Coral Reference Collection at '
NARA contains the new corals recorded for Sri Lanka.
