Sand bar formation at the mouth is a frequent phenomenon of Rekawa Lagoon. Larval migration from sea to the lagoon and the sub-adult migration from lagoon to the sea takes place when the lagoon mouth is cut open by the villagers. Information was collected with respect to the opening up of the sand bar and related larval and sub-adult migration during the period August 1993 to July 1995. Rainfall pattern shows a direct influence on the opening up of the lagoon mouth and there by on the completion of the life cycle of Penaeus indicus.
