| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Development of a low cost feed for rearing of Guppy (Poecillia reticulata) the prominent species both in the export and the local market is investigated. The experiment was carried out for a period of 4 weeks. Six rectangular cement tanks (1.6 m xl.Om x 0.5m) were used. The tanks were washed with tap water and filled up to 45 cm with tap water. After 2 tanks were stocked with fry of P. reticulata at a stocking density of -3 cleaned, days, the 350.fry m
Two feed triplicate
types were tested, i.e. commercial feed (Cf) and aqua-feed (Af) in The aqua-feed was formulated to consist approximately 20% of crude protein, 12% rice bran (Rb) and 22% locally prepared fishmeal. Cf was used were pro feed wa$ as the control diet. Both diets were processed as feed dough, and i aided twice daily at a rate of 20% body weight. Prepared Aqua used within a day. The feeding rate was adjusted weekly according to the weight of the fish. Air and water temperature vyere measured daily around 0930 hrs and 1530 hrs. pH was measured daily at 0930 hrs Total Ammonia Nitrogen (TAN) was measured once a week. After 4 weeks of rearing, the fish were harvested and % survival, Average Daily Growth ;ADG), Specific Growth Rate in weight (SGR-W) and Feed Conversion Ratio of 2 feed types (FCR) were determined. Toxic un-ionized ammonia
The mea 0.1044± respectiv significant fish fed respectiv Af were The FCR analysis and Cf would be
(NH3) was calculated.
i toxic Ammonia (NH3) and pH of the 2 treatments; Cf and Af were 0.1376, 8.97± 0.4317 and 0.0466±0.0371, 8.678±0.1847, ely. The mean water temperature in the 2 treatments was not tly different (p>0.05). The Mean ADG, SGR4/V and % survival of
0
n Cf were 0.0081 ± 0.0046, 4.9462 ± 1.8904 and 28.53 ± 3.5445, ely. As such, the Mean ADG, SGR-W and % survival of fish fed on .0088± 0.0024, 5.5163 ± 0.0899 and 25.77 ± 5.1082, respectively, of Cf and Af were 1.63± 1.5768.and 3.7±6.72, respectively. Cost ndicated that the production cost of 100 market sized fish using Af were Rs. 8.45 and Rs.21.25 respectively. Accordingly, using Af more profitable than Cf when rearing Guppies. |
