Spiny Lobster fishery is an important fishery to Sri Lanka as 90% of the catch is imported both in the form of frozen or live lobsters. Live lobster export industry developed rapidly during the last 05 years mainly due to the. attractive prices paid to fishermen. Lobsters are caught by set gill nets (3”. 3 V2 “ & 4” mesh sizes). Lobster rings (hoop nets), trammel nets and also by
diving. Contribution of each fishing method to the total production in the study area is as follows.
